Commercial Business Photography

Great commercial photography doesn't happen by accident, it happens when the person behind the camera has spent 30 years creating work that answers a strategy. National campaigns for Jeep, Honda, Dodge, Chevrolet, Buick, Pfizer, Campbell's, and Colgate have a way of sharpening your instincts. At Detroitable Photo, we don't just understand your brand, we understand that your audience needs to feel something before they buy. That's not photography, that's strategy with a shutter. WHAT TO EXPECT FOR HEADSHOTS.

We'll Talk First.

Every session starts with a quick conversation in person, by phone, or by email. We want to know what the photos are for (LinkedIn? Your website? Press? All of the above?), what look you're going for, and any questions or concerns you have. The more we know upfront, the better the photos.

Solid colors photograph best navy, charcoal, white, burgundy, forest green. Avoid busy patterns, logos, and anything that wrinkles easily. Bring two or three outfit options if you'd like variety. When in doubt, dress one level up from how you'd normally show up to a client meeting. You want to look like the best version of yourself.

Come camera-ready. If you typically wear makeup, wear it as you normally would for an important meeting. If you'd like professional hair and makeup, we're happy to recommend local artists we trust. For men: a fresh haircut and a clean shave (or neatly groomed beard) go a long way.

Get a good night's sleep. Stay hydrated. Avoid salty foods that cause puffiness. Lay out your outfits the night before so you're not rushing. Small things, big difference.

Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early. We're based in Royal Oak, with easy parking and a relaxed, low pressure vibe. When you walk in, we'll get you settled, talk through the plan for the session, and make sure you're comfortable before we ever pick up the camera.

We use professional studio lighting designed to flatter a wide range of skin tones and facial structures. We'll adjust the setup based on what works best for you. If you're doing a location shoot instead of a studio session, we bring portable equipment and scout the best spots for light and background.

If you've brought outfit changes, we'll build those into the session. A quick wardrobe swap takes just a few minutes, and having two or three distinct looks gives you more flexibility when it comes time to choose your favorites.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does a session take?

I'm a photographer. You paid me to deliver.  I'm going to deliver.  I don't actually like the time limit thing because it's not as if an hour into our shoot, I'm going to say "Well, that's it, time is up!" lol.   I shoot until we get what we've got to get and that's that!  Sometimes, it's BAM, BAM, BAM!.....and we're knocking shots out, doing changes quick and it just flows and we're done sooner than later.  Sometimes, we go over.   Estimated shoot time is 60 mins.

What if I'm not photogenic?

You are you just haven't had the right direction yet. Part of our job is making sure you never feel lost in front of the camera. We've photographed people who swore they were unphotogenic and watched them light up when they saw the results.

Can I bring someone with me?

Absolutely. A friend, partner, or colleague is always welcome. Sometimes having a familiar face in the room makes all the difference.

What if I need to reschedule?

Life happens. Just give us at least 48 hours notice and we'll find a new time that works.

Do you shoot on location or only in studio?

Both. Studio sessions offer controlled lighting and a clean, professional look. Location shoots give you variety outdoor settings, your office, a neighborhood that reflects your brand. We serve the full Metro Detroit area including Royal Oak, Birmingham, Troy, Bloomfield Hills, and beyond.
